Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré has been made in France since 1950 and is the cream makeup artists reach for backstage, used as a moisturizer, a primer, an aftershave balm and an overnight mask. There is no active ingredient in it. It works by doing the oldest job in skincare properly — sealing water into the skin so it cannot leave.

Shea butter, beeswax and mineral oil form the occlusive layer, with hydrolyzed soy protein and aloe extract for softness. The texture is what sets it apart under makeup: thick in the jar, but it presses into skin as a smooth base rather than a greasy one. It is a rich formula, better suited to winter and air-conditioned rooms than to monsoon humidity, and the ingredient list includes parfum and beeswax.

Application

How to use it

1 After serum, as the last skincare step at night.
2 Warm a small amount between fingertips and press into slightly damp skin.
3 For a makeup base, apply a thin layer and wait five minutes before foundation.
4 Use a thicker layer as an overnight mask on very dry patches.
5 Use on the body wherever skin feels rough.
6 In the morning, follow with sunscreen.

Will it clog my pores?

Is it really fragrance-free?

No. Embryolisse have run more than one version of this formula and the widely sold one lists parfum. We tag it as containing fragrance so nobody filtering for fragrance-free is caught out.

Can I use it as a makeup primer?

That is what made it famous. Apply a thin layer, give it five minutes to settle, then foundation. A thick layer will make makeup slide.
